The Baker family has gone undergo changes over the year as Lorraine as graduated from high school and going to New York to study, Nora is pregnant with her first child and married to Bud McNulty, and the couple intend to move to Houston because of Bud's job promotion. Feeling the family is growing apart and the children are going to grow up and move away, Tom presudes a vacation for the whole family to go to Lake Winnetka. Along the way, Tom meets up with his rival, Jimmy Murtagh and his family of eight kids and a beautiful wife as Jimmy succeeds his wealth to Tom, and the kids starts hanging out with his kids and at his lake house more, instead of family time. As Tom enters the family into The Annual Family Cup to beat the Murtaghs who has beaten them all the time. Meanwhile, Charlie starts secretly dating Jimmy's oldest daughter, Anne behind Tom and Jimmy's back, Nora and Bud are trying to find out names for the baby, and Sarah develops a crush on Jimmy's son, Elliot.
